ouR NEWEST PROJECT- tHE NLQRI.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Queer Research Initiative is a new project hosted through the Gender and Politics Laboratory that aims to address the dearth of 2SLGBTQ+ research within academia. This project is directly connected to the lab's mission of investigating the role of gender in political culture and history.

Our Mission:

The NLQRI was established to facilitate the preservation and commemoration of the 2SLGBTQ+ histories of Newfoundland and Labrador. Our mandate is to:

-empower our community to recover and share our history, and

-maintain a collection of 2SLGBTQ+ historical materials and research for the purposes of academic scholarship, policymaking, and for use by the broader community.

Our Method:

Our project is driven by and for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.  We recognize that members of our community are marginalized in traditional academic research initiatives which is why our organizational structure prioritizes community-led research and training. Specifically through peer mentorship programming and community engagement.
